Cinema Blast
The city of Ludhiana was literally shaken
last month when a powerful explosion in a cinema on the evening of Sunday 14th
October once again caused CMC to act quickly and attend to those seriously injured. On
hearing of the blast CMC immediately despatched its ambulances to the scene. Their prompt
action and the skill of their trained staff enabled them to stabilise the condition of the
critically wounded and ensured their speedy transfer to CMCs Trauma Centre.
Twenty-six patients (many aged between 14 and 30) were brought to CMC, three of whom were
in a serious condition, one critical. Two patients had extensive injuries and underwent
amputations of affected limbs, others had extensive fractures, two had minor burns and
others had vascular injuries and lacerations. style="font-size:16.0pt;font-family:

Centre, played a crucial role and doctors and surgeons from other departments were needed
to give specialist treatment where necessary. Ten patients were taken to the high
dependency ward and one to ICU.
The students of the CMC colleges responded to
the urgent need for blood to help the critically injured by donating their own. Playing
down his contribution, one medical student modestly said, It was just a moral
duty to which anybody should respond.
CMC Ludhiana has always responded well to
such emergencies in the past and this, of course, was no exception. The Chief Minister of
the Punjab visited CMC on the Monday and witnessed for himself the excellent care being
given to the victims. |
