The DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL & PREVENTIVE MEDICINE works to improve the attitudes and practices of those living in slum areas of the city and villages. It offers care to those in greatest need – pregnant women, babies, pre-school children – and gives education on nutrition, disease, family planning and sanitation through a number of clinics held in areas of the city. It operates a school health programme where children are given check-ups, and health education is given with the active participation of teachers and staff.
