In October 2022 the Dental College celebrated its 30th anniversary. A number of alumni from the UK were able to attend. They witnessed the Inauguration of the refurbished Department of Endodontics and Conservative Dentistry at the Christian Dental College and were very impressed. They decided they could help by raising funds for a Cone Beam CT scanner.
Arun writes: CBCT (Cone Beam Computed Tomography) scans are 3D CT scans like the medical scans but for dental and facial region. The patient stands up or sits down for this machine, the footprint, radiation and cost are a lot less than for medical scanners.
This is a very standard and common diagnostic tool for dental implantology treatments in the West now. We have been using one in my practice since 2016 and the difference this has made is amazing compared to traditional 2D imaging/x rays.
Nowadays the CBCT scanners have become more compact and cheaper and there are settings to be used to patients who need orthodontic treatment, oral surgery (facial trauma, cancer surgeries) and even for root canal treatments.
Ludhiana is a city of more than 6 million people and CDC is premier dental hospital. When we visited recently for the alumni meeting, we got an idea of the number of cases they are doing, and the amazing potential. Every day they have to send multiple patients to private scan centres in the city to get the CBCT images. This is massively inconvenient and costs the patients more. This machine would be a game changer in providing cost effective high quality implant and oral surgery treatments to the people of Punjab.
The dentist’s target is £36,000. If you would like to help you may send your donation to Friends of Ludhiana making it clear the money is to be used to purchase a CBCT scanner for the Christian Dental College. Cheques should be made payable to Friends of Ludhiana. Please do not write the name of the appeal on the cheque.
