January 2024 found Friends of Ludhiana facing the future without a Treasurer and an urgent need to complete our reports and financial statements for 2023. Thanks to help from our bank and our auditors all reports will be delivered on time. However, it is thanks to all of you who continued to support us with your prayers and donations that we have a new Treasurer, David Forbes, and have already transferred funds to India for a porcelain furnace, a surgical laser unit and a conscious sedation unit, all to be used by the dental department.
David is a Chartered Accountant from the Highlands of Scotland who spent two years as the Finance Secretary of Christian Medical College and Hospital (CMC), Ludhiana. Initially he was invited to focus on training medical and dental students in Bible study methods while providing independent guidance to the Finance Department, but after some weeks he was appointed to manage the Finance function with its 59 staff. It was a challenge and an adventure for both him, his wife and 4 children. Over those two years CMC’s finances were returned to break-even.
After completing those two years he was invited to participate in and then lead the finance function of a group of 19 Christian Mission hospitals spread throughout rural India. This continued for three years before the family returned to the UK and David went back to being a university lecturer in Accountancy and Finance.
David now facilitates a weekly Bible Study with his friends from CMC and other parts of India. He has recently retired as a Cost Auditor with a water utility.
